Moritz Polter, Oliver Vogel and Jan S. Kaiser, Executive Producers for Bavaria Fiction, commented:
“With impressive action sequences and unexpected twists and turns, paired with intensive character studies, Das Boot 2 focuses on how the human soul can become twisted by war; revealing an appalling panorama of the damage conflict brings to anyone and anything it touches. The underlying message of the series – of how blindly following bigotry leads young men into war and inflicting pointless casualties and deaths – should not be lost on viewers as it is as relevant today as in the past.”
Marcus Ammon, SVP Sky Originals at Sky Deutschland:
"The first season of Das Boot has been a resounding success for Sky and has reached an audience of millions, not just in Germany but across the whole Sky group. With two new directors and again with an outstanding cast and Bavaria Fiction on board, we’re convinced the multi-layered story will captivate even more fans with new twists, exciting storylines and in-depth characters."

Synopsis of the second season
December 1942. We meet the very experienced U-boat ace Johannes von Reinhartz (Clemens Schick) who is sent with U-822 on a secret mission to the US East Coast in order to disembark three saboteurs. His loyalty is questioned and U-612, with its Commanding Officer Wrangel (Stefan Konarske), is sent in pursuit.
Former U-612 Commanding Officer Hoffmann (Rick Okon) narrowly escaped death in the Atlantic Ocean. In New York he finds shelter with Sam Greenwood (Vincent Kartheiser), who owes his life to Hoffmann, and meets the sleazy German-born lawyer Berger (Thomas Kretschmann). Will he enable him to return to Germany?
Back in La Rochelle, Simone (Vicky Krieps) is still secretly helping those affected by the Nazi occupation, and Forster (Tom Wlaschiha), Head of the Gestapo, suspects as much, as Simone and her roommate Margot (Fleur Geffrier) work to secure an escape route for a Jewish family.
